10 Ways to cultivate a dead Church

John the Baptist came and (for the most part) faced dead religion. But he would be the catalyst to begin turning spiritually dead people into spiritually living people. If Pastors and Church members want to stay spiritually dead and stay in dead churches, then here are at least 10 ways I can think of to achieve that.

1. Never challenge ourselves. Just embrace the status quo.

2. Never give. Time, money, effort. Just keep taking.

3. Never love glorifying God in singing. Only be academic, theoretical.

4. Never long to spend time in prayer. Keep it mechanical.

5. Never really believe the Scriptures actually mean what they say. It’s just a story.

6. Never cover anything controversial. Stay afraid.

7. Never make Jesus the center of attention. People are the center.

8. Never tell people to stop thinking about themselves. Always focused on themselves.

9. Never tell people their greatest need is repentance. They are fine the way they are.

10. Never tell people they can be born again. Let them try to live this life naturally.

A Magnificat

Luke 1.46-56 is commonly referred to as “The Magnificat”.  It’s where Mary (“the mother of my Lord” v43) seems to sing a Psalm.  “Magnificat” means magnify and it certainly does not magnify Mary, but God.  When our Church studied it on New Years day we noticed that the Psalm was full of scripture.  Mary, was full of scripture.  We have several young people in our Church who are full of the Word too and we are the better for it.  We hope God will gift those young people to write a song and put some of that scripture to new music.  Here is an example of it from Scott Cunningham’s daughters at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.
